Civil society organisations, state and local government authorities, women, girls, and gender (and sexual) minorities.

Target

Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kochi

Locations

01-Apr-2024 to 31-Mar-2027

Duration

To strengthen the engagement of civil society organisations in transport planning and governance in Indian cities to benefit the public at large, with emphasis on women and girls, gender and sexual minorities, as well as other beneficiaries including persons with disabilities, children, the elderly, and pedestrians, to implement low-carbon urban transport systems.

Our Focus

The proposed action aims to develop more inclusive urban transport systems, ensuring that women, gender, and sexual minorities, along with other marginalised groups, have increased economic opportunities and an enhanced quality of life through improved mobility access. Utilising the 5-point Gender Responsive Assessment Scale (GRAS) developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the objective is to transition urban transport systems from being gender-blind to being gender-specific or gender-responsive. This entails adopting planning and policymaking approaches that incorporate gender, age, socioeconomic, and other intersectional concerns, while recognising diverse mobility needs and patterns in transport planning, development, execution, and assessment. Through community-level engagement and sensitisation of government stakeholders, the project aims to contribute to dismantling harmful gender norms and establish the groundwork for gender-transformative mobility systems in the future.

The proposed action is designed to achieve this long-term impact through the following project outcomes:
