The World Nature Conservation Day on 28th July 2024 served as a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard our nation’s natural resources for both present and future generations. In light of this, Development Alternatives (DA) hosted a roundtable discussion on the evening of 27th July 2024, on the eve of World Nature Conservation Day. Dr. Rajesh Tandon was invited to participate in this roundtable discussion.
The roundtable aimed to foster dialogue among experts and influencers in environmental conservation, addressing pressing challenges and exploring innovative solutions for both development and environmental crises. The discussion seeks to facilitate collaboration among leaders in the field, finding common ground to drive systemic change, synergise efforts, and advance agendas focused on people's well-being and nature conservation. This will be achieved through collaborative partnerships, innovative solutions, policy advocacy, community engagement, and climate mitigation.
The goal is to catalyse action, share insights, and strengthen representation and advocacy toward a sustainable future. The first half of the one-day meeting was dedicated to self-introductions and presentations by participants. Subsequent sessions focused on:
(i) exchanging views on implementing this year’s WNCD theme of “Promoting Land Restoration, Combating Desertification, and Enhancing Drought Resilience,” and
(ii) exploring interest in the growing movement among Civil Society organisations on a sustainability strategy for the Himalayan-Hindu Kush range of mountains.
