Launch of the Global Open Access Repository

The UNESCO Chair in Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education launched a Global Open Access Repository, an open-access digital platform dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich legacy of Participatory Research and Knowledge Democracy. The repository brings together rare writings, reports, photographs, videos, and archival materials from across the world, with the aim of democratising access to knowledge.

The launch event introduced the repository’s vision, significance, and role in advancing Knowledge Democracy and Open Science. The webinar brought together nearly 170 participants from across the world, reflecting the growing global interest in participatory research and open knowledge.

The panel featured Dr. Budd Hall, Professor Emeritus of Community Development, University of Victoria; Dr. Rajesh Tandon; Mr. Keith Holmes, UNITWIN/UNESCO, Chairs Research Coordinator; Dr. Inba Kehoe, University of Victoria; Ms. Caroline Winter, University of Victoria; and Mr. Arjan de Haan, IDRC, as panellists.

During the session, our colleague Mr. Zia Abbas showcased the DSpace-based repository platform, demonstrating its features and potential for preserving and providing open access to archival knowledge and resources. Ms. Saanya Sodhi facilitated the session and guided the discussions throughout the webinar.
