Inaugural Prof. P. R. Balgopal Annual Lecture on Social Justice in India

Dr. Rajesh Tandon delivered a special lecture at the Inaugural Prof. P. R. Balgopal Annual Lecture on Social Justice in India at the 13th Indian Social Work Conference 2025, hosted by the Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM), Bhubaneswar, from 6–8 November 2025.

Instituted this year in honour of Professor P. R. Balgopal and his late wife, Mrs. Shyamla Balgopal, the Annual Lecture commemorates Prof. Balgopal’s lifelong commitment to advancing social justice and human rights. A distinguished scholar of social work, Prof. Balgopal retired from the University of Illinois in 2000. His colleagues and friends established the Balgopal Foundation to further the cause of social justice in Asia, particularly in India.

Supported by the Balgopal Foundation, this lecture series built upon his legacy of fostering critical reflection and action on issues of equity and human rights. Dr. Tandon delivered the inaugural lecture on 6 November 2025 during the conference’s opening day at CUTM, Bhubaneswar.
