Course Rationale

As sport continues to grow in popularity as an approach and method to achieve developmental objectives, it is important to consider the key aspects that are required to plan, design and implement activities for effective sport for development (S4D) programming. These include strategising various aspects of an S4D programme, as well as preparing a theory of change to help guide the objectives of the S4D programme. Moreover, to ensure that these objectives of the S4D programme are met, appropriate monitoring and evaluation mechanisms need to be put in place.

Though these are standard practices in designing and implementing any development programme, this course provides specific guidance to practitioners in understanding the design and delivery of S4D programmes. Further, the rapidly changing context globally due to the COVID-19 pandemic will require a different approach to designing and implementing S4D programmes, which is explored in this course.

This course has been designed to make it relevant to practitioners, government officials, policy makers, social workers, sports trainers and managers as well as researchers who have limited insight into S4D, but are interested in building their knowledge and capacity to integrate S4D approaches within their overall development frameworks.

The course has been developed by Pro Sport Development (PSD) along with PRIA International Academy (PIA) and UNESCO New Delhi.
