Prem Chadha Memorial Youth Leadership Programme,

Phase I, 2009-10

The Prem Chadha Memorial Youth Leadership Programme Camp II held in New Delhi between 24 and 28 May brought to an end Phase I of the programme. Phase I was conducted through two training camps, Basic Youth Leadership Programme held in Odisha from 27-31 December 2009 and the Advanced Youth Leadership Programme in New Delhi.

The programme, which has been launched in memory of one of the founders of PRIA, Prem Chadha aims to create a group of future leaders from the marginalised sections who can act as change agents in their community.

In Phase I, 82 Tribal youth from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha were selected to help them enhance and nurture leadership skills and competencies. Sixteen candidates were selected from among the participants of the first camp and were given advanced leadership training in Camp II.

The next step of the programme is the launch of Phase II, due in 2010-11. The second phase will focus on youth belonging to the Scheduled Caste community in the states of Rajasthan and Haryana. The future strategy of the programme would be training the participants of Phase 2 as well as continual engagement with those of Phase I.
