Ranchi High Court forced to do self-disclosure: Jharkhand

A visit was made by PRIA SRC, Jharkhand to the High court at Ranchi for getting some information from PIO/APIO in the context of the study 'Tracking Progress of RTI'. It was surprising to note that till 2nd March 2007, there had been no PIO/APIO or Appellate Authority appointed by the High Court. After enquiries, it became known through an employee of Registrar's Office of the Court, that till date no official gazette has been notified for establishing the apparatus for implementing the RTI regime in the Courts of the State. This information was given by the employee to PRIA on the assurance that it would be kept confidential. After 10 days i.e. on 12th March 2007, a news was published in the local newspapers that RTI has been implemented in different courts of the State, including the High Court and PIOs, /APIOs and Appellate Authorities have been appointed.
